Girl Peeking Over the Counter --- Image by © Royalty-Free/Corbis

A Story:

A young boy, 4 years old, watched as he mother made a batch of homemade cookies. He watched, mouth watering, as she mixed the ingredients, spooned it onto the cookies sheet, slid it into the oven…and he watched with wide eyes as each batch melted into cookies in the oven. He watched as his mother would then move each batch from the cookie sheet to the cooling rack, all the while licking his lips and hoping his mother would have mercy on him and give him a cookie.

She never did.

Finally, when all the cookies were cooled, she put them in the cookie jar for later and left the kitchen. A few minutes later, upon her return to the kitchen, she caught her 4 year old son on his knees on the counter, mouth full of cookies. When he saw her, he tried to explain, “I just climbed up to smell them, and my tooth got caught in one.”

Moral: Hanging out on the edge of wrong tempts us until we are no longer strong enough to resist.
